Finding Form, is a series of paintings influenced by the discomfort and non-functionality of life post the virus. The pandemic questioned our sense of security and safety, leaving all of us untether in every possible way. It impacted our livelihood, our identity, and made the world stand still. When that identity is stripped away, it made me question the structure of life I built in these past 5 years. I was a teacher, and teaching children art is all I knew. And when that was taken away from me, I felt lost.
These paintings are an extension of myself, exploring these transient times seeking form and structure, making sense of life. My creative process involves, covering the white canvas with one solid color or by using different colors. Sometimes I pour colors loosely on the canvas to create a different yet cohesive background. Creating the base, is unique and organic to each canvas. In between I my mask areas to create visible lines, random
and overlapped. I use shapes, especially circles, small and big with brushes, that creates patterns and create a texture. And fill the canvas with lines and symbols. I create small circles, and connect them with lines which appear as patterns of atomic grid. The entire process is organic, there’s a lot of pauses and play, it’s the way I communicate with the canvas.
